
Danica Sue Patrick is an American former professional racer. Danica Sue Patrick is among the top-performing American open-wheel racing female. Her win in Indy Japan 300 in 2008 is her first win. She dropped out of high school after her parents' consent in 1998, and then moved to the United Kingdom to further her career. Patrick was a racer in Formula Vauxhall before moving to the United States in 2001 because of a lack in funding. In 2002, she participated in five Barber Dodge Pro Series races in conjunction with Rahal Letterman racing. Patrick continued to race in the Toyota Atlantic Series for the next two years. Her best result was when she finished third in championship standings in 2004 when she became the first female to take a pole in the series.She first competed in the IndyCar Series with Rahal Letterman Racing in 2005. She earned three pole positions. This was the same as Tomas Scheckter's record of poles in her rookie season. She was named the IndyCar Series rookie of the year 2005, and she won the Indianapolis 500. She showed improvement over the following two years with Rahal Letterman Racing in 2006 and later Andretti Green Racing in 2007. Patrick placed sixth overall in drivers standings in 2008 following her Japan win. She improved her position to finish fifth in drivers' standings the next season. This was her best performance at the Indianapolis 500 and a career-high for Patrick. Patrick's overall form was poor in 2010, however, she scored two second-place finishes at oval tracks before she left IndyCar to focus solely on stock car racing.
